PARASITE MONSTER (THE CAVE 2005)
The Cave (2005)
The Cave Parasite is a parasite that appears in the movie The Cave. It can mutate many organisms indigenous to the Romanian cave system it inhabits. It generally modifies its’ host to better survive in a subterranean environment, i.e. echolocation, heightened sense of smell, etc. Humans infected by this parasite are transformed into Cave Monsters.
Cave Monsters are humans mutated by the cave parasite.
When a human is exposed to the parasite, their body gradually mutates into a form better suited for a cave environment. It is unknown how long the transformation takes, or if the creatures seen have finished their adaptation. These monsters have the ability to “see” with echolocation, can fly, swim, and are smart enough to lay traps and steal vital supplies from potential victims. They are, however, sensitive to bright light and focused sonic waves. It is unclear how much of their original minds they have left, or if they can even recognise humans as being of the same species anymore.
Movie summary (The Cave, 2005)
A team of explorers go in search of a lost expedition that vanished while searching a vast subterranean cave system below a long-lost 13th-century Eastern Orthodox abbey. While following a vast underground river they become trapped a mile under the surface. As they struggle to find away out, it soon becomes clear something lives in these cavernous catacombs and it’s far from harmless.
